House in the Islands (moss rock, Lewers & Cooke), 2017

House in the Islands is concerned with inscribing a working-class presence in the Islands at a moment of transition from a plantation to urban life in the 1920s. The nearly identical floor plans are of simple dwellings, a plantation laborer’s house and the smallest Lewers & Cooke house that could be ordered from their catalogue. The floor plans are beadblasted into Hawaiian stone veneers.
